Punjab Technical University was established by an act of State Legislature on 16 Jan 1997.

One of the main focus of PTU at this time is in the area of providing training in professional & skill oriented technologies to the masses & help in the development of skilled manpower in this sector for the state & country.

PTU, under its administration, has 39 Engineering colleges, 56 Management colleges, 17 Pharmacy colleges, 4 B.Sc MLT colleges, 1 Hotel Management & Catering Technology College and 302 Learning centers under distance education.
